Laura Zubillaga

About

Laura Zubillaga is a Lecturer in Wood Architecture at Aalto University. For over a decade, she has been teaching in the Wood Program, leading numerous experimental design-build projects that have gained national and international recognition. She specializes in timber construction, prefabrication, and environmental impact assessment. Additionally, she has a strong background in the wood industry, with expertise acquired in both South America and Finland. Laura is currently pursuing a Ph.D., focusing on “Sustainability Perspectives in Wood Architecture Education.”

Wood Program – Dive into Experimentation

The year-long Wood Program focuses on wood architecture and industrialized construction through a combination of theoretical study and hands-on experimentation. Over the past 30 years, the program has produced 42 experimental wooden buildings. This presentation outlines its pedagogical framework and highlights the students’ collaborative learning journey—from initial concept development to full-scale implementation.
