Prof. Helmut Dietrich
About
After studying architecture at the Technical University of Vienna and working for a few years in Paolo Piva’s studio, Helmut Dietrich (* 1957) set up his own practice in his home country in 1986. After sharing an office with Christian Lenz, Hermann Kaufmann and Elmar Gmeiner in Schwarzach, he and Much Untertrifaller founded Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architekten in 1994, which is now internationally established. Helmut Dietrich helped the Vorarlberg building scene to gain an international reputation.
He is passionate about detail and timber construction, for whose current status he has done significant development work. He is one of the leading international experts in modern, urban timber construction and is head of the ‘überholz’ university course at the University of Art and Design Linz. A determining factor in his work is the resource-conserving use of materials. Helmut Dietrich also passes on this knowledge as a member of advisory boards, in lectures and in teaching.
